If Jefferson signed “thousands” of treaties with the Netherlands, then it must have been a really contentious time.
In all seriousness, the only document they found like that (as pointed out by Nougat above) is a pre-printed form the Netherlands used, and Jefferson signed. Jefferson didn’t originate it, write it, promote it – it was a treaty, he probably looked at it and figured “Ah, fuck it – nobody 300 years from now is going to use this to try and make me look like a god botherer.”
He never counted on the stupidity of Beck and the outright lying of Barton.
